Under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA) president Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa inaugurated Al Bucheeri Mosque in East Hidd.
This is in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to construct and renovate mosques across all governorates.
Shaikh Abdulrahman underscored Bahrain’s commitment to supporting places of worship, under the leadership of His Majesty, and the continuous follow up of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He emphasised the role of mosques in promoting virtue, knowledge and social cohesion.
The SCIA president praised the collaborative efforts of public and private entities in developing endowment projects to ensure the sustainability and growth of religious institutions.
The event opened with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Dr Shaikh Abdullah Al Hammadi, followed by a speech from SCIA member Dr Shaikh Abdullatif Mahmood Al Mahmood.
Dr Shaikh Abdullatif highlighted the enduring charitable value of mosques, emphasising their role in fostering spiritual growth, social harmony and intellectual advancement. He underscored their importance as centres for education, community engagement and the promotion of peace and development.
Abdulkarim Ahmed Bucheeri delivered a speech in which he expressed gratitude to His Majesty the King and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for their continued support of religious and social projects that serve the community.
He also thanked Shaikh Abdulrahman for his role in overseeing the mosque’s completion and extended appreciation to all those involved in the project.
He noted that the construction of Al Bucheeri Mosque cost BD2.5 million and incorporates an advanced audio-visual system operated through touch and remote control.
The mosque covers a 6,735sqm plot, with a 2,300sqm built-up area accommodating 2,000 worshippers. It includes two halls for social events with a combined capacity of more than 320 people, five endowment-funded commercial shops, and dedicated housing for the imam and muezzin.
