An Iraqi man has allegedly tricked eight women into an elaborate marriage scam, swindling BD33,000 from his latest victim.
The 35-year-old would legally and traditionally marry his victims, convince them to purchase properties and take their savings before disappearing with the money and divorcing them shortly afterwards.
Speaking to local media, his latest ex-wife claimed that he made her sell her car and gold before he fled and later sent her divorce papers.
She also revealed that he worked in the luxury car sector and rented high-end cars to trick the women into believing he was affluent.
The eight women, allegedly swindled by this man, founded a Whatsapp group, where they shared photos and screenshots confirming their marriage to him in lavish traditional ceremonies. According to local media, the group's members have increased since then.
Iraqi authorities are yet to comment on how he was able to do this without detection.
