INDUSTRY and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro has underscored the ministry’s commitment to protecting consumer rights and promoting awareness of sustainable lifestyles, empowering consumers to make informed and responsible decisions.
This came on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day, observed annually on March 15 since 1983 under the United Nations, with this year’s theme focusing on ‘Sustainable Lifestyles.’
The minister emphasised that achieving sustainability in consumption has become an urgent priority, requiring collaboration among government entities, the private sector, civil society organisations, and consumers to foster a fair and transparent consumer environment that encourages ethical and responsible business practices.
He noted that the Consumer Protection Directorate at the ministry will continue introducing initiatives and programmes to promote a culture of sustainable consumption. The directorate will also collaborate with local and international organisations to exchange expertise and best practices in the field.
Mr Fakhro underscored the importance of engaging youth and future generations in awareness and training initiatives, encouraging them to adopt responsible consumption habits through partnerships with the Education Ministry and educational institutions in Bahrain.
He added that consumer protection is not only a legal obligation but also a moral and societal responsibility that strengthens trust and safeguards rights within a fair and sustainable economic framework.
