Shura Council secretary-general Kareema Al Abbasi yesterday read out a statement on the successful launch of Bahrain’s Al Munther satellite into orbit.
Members were also notified about two written replies by Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa on a question by Shura member Dr Ali Al Haddad relating to motorcycle riders and Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj on a question by Dr Abdulaziz Al Ajman on roadworks.
Tough action is being taken against undisciplined motorcycle riders, particularly those involved in food deliveries, said Gen Shaikh Rashid.
Law enforcement agencies have been directed to conduct random checks on delivery riders and impose immediate fines on those violating the law.
“There were 3,387 accidents last year out of which there were seven fatalities, with five delivery drivers at fault and two victims,” said Gen Shaikh Rashid.
“This compares to 2,781 accidents in 2023 in which four fatalities were reported, two delivery drivers at fault and two victims.”
In the other reply, Mr Al Hawaj said Bahrain was committed to maintaining high standards while developing its infrastructure to keep pace with the growing urban, economic and investment activities.
The minister asserted that project timelines were being met, with measures taken against contractors who fail to comply with rules or instructions.
“To maintain stringent oversight, each project is assigned a dedicated team, including engineers, assistant engineers and technical specialists, who conduct daily inspections, ensuring that the materials used meet the required standards,” he said.
