Bahrain’s success in launching the satellite Al Munther represents an historic milestone in the kingdom’s journey to bolster its national capabilities and establish its position in space sciences and technology on the global stage, His Majesty King Hamad has said.
His Majesty, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, yesterday received National Security Adviser, Royal Guard Commander and Supreme Defence Council Secretary General Lieutenant General Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Nasser introduced to His Majesty members of the board of directors of Bahrain Space Agency and its talented space science team, following the successful launch of the first Bahraini satellite designed and developed entirely within the kingdom.
Al Munther was launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, US aboard the Falcon 9 rocket on Saturday. It carried four space payloads designed and developed by Bahraini space engineers, marking the country’s entry into advanced technological realms in the space sector.
The King congratulated Shaikh Nasser for the new scientific achievement.
He also applauded the Bahrain Space Agency team, governmental institutions, and all contributors to this national accomplishment.
The King commended their efforts in implementing the important project, which adds to the kingdom’s record of achievements and wished everyone continued success in future space endeavours.
“The Kingdom of Bahrain will continue its efforts to consolidate its standing among countries leading in space sciences and technology,” he said.
“This contributes to further advancing the kingdom’s comprehensive development process across all sectors.”
His Majesty awarded the members of the Bahrain Space Agency team with medals of competence and national service.
