Three Indian fishermen have been found guilty of illegal shrimp fishing at the Lower Criminal Court.
They have been sentenced to one month in prison, with one of them being fined BD1,500. They will all be deported on the completion of their jail sentences.
The court further ordered the confiscation of the seized shrimp, the illegal fishing nets and their boat.
According to the details of the case, the three men were caught by the Coast Guard while using bottom trawl nets, which are banned in the kingdom.
When they spotted the security patrol, they unsuccessfully attempted to flee. After being pursued and apprehended, the coast guard crew found fresh shrimp and a variety of juvenile fish in their possession.
The Public Prosecution immediately launched an investigation, interrogated the suspects, and secured their confessions regarding the use of banned fishing equipment.
The case was subsequently referred to the Lower Criminal Court judges who issued the guilty verdict
