Beyon has appointed AECOM as the master planner for its ambitious Digital City project in Hamala, marking a major step towards creating a leading technology hub in Bahrain.
The signing ceremony, held at Beyon’s headquarters, was attended by Beyon chief executive Andrew Kvaalseth, Digital City Development Company chairman Faisal Al Jalahma, Urban Planning and Development Authority chief executive Ahmed Al Khayat, and AECOM’s head of buildings + places in Bahrain David Border.
AECOM will oversee the design and planning of the city, which aims to integrate commercial, technological and lifestyle spaces, including green areas and urban amenities. A key focus will be seamless integration with Bahrain’s transport infrastructure.
UPDA will ensure the project aligns with the kingdom’s urban expansion plans, prioritising efficient traffic flow and connection to major transport networks.
Mr Al Jalahma highlighted the $700 million project’s potential to attract foreign investment in technology, commerce, and R&D, creating high-value jobs.
“We are confident that with AECOM’s expertise, and the support of key authorities, the Beyon Digital City will not only accelerate Bahrain’s digital economy but also position the kingdom as a leading destination for innovation and enterprise,” he added.
Mr Al Khayat emphasised the Beyon Digital City project’s alignment with Bahrain’s land use strategy, noting its contribution to trade, job creation, and sustainable transportation, including an automated tram system.
AECOM’s David Border pledged a focus on sustainable urban design and a people-centred environment to foster innovation.
Beyon’s Digital City aims to solidify Bahrain’s position as a regional digital and innovation leader.
By leveraging world-class urban planning expertise and strategic infrastructure co-ordination, the development is expected to set new benchmarks in sustainable, tech-driven urbansiation, ultimately contributing to the kingdom’s long-term economic and technological growth objectives.
