The artistic community, along with writers and intellectuals from Bahrain and around the world, mourned yesterday the passing of veteran fine artist Abdulkarim Al Arayyadh, aged 90.
With his demise, Bahrain has lost one of its pioneering artists who boasts a rich artistic experience in the country’s modern era.
The late Abdulkarim Al Arayyadh was one of the most prominent figures in the field of fine arts in Bahrain, the Arab region, and the world. His works were regarded as an embodiment of the nation’s spirit and cultural identity, serving as a bridge between Bahrain’s ancient history and its modern era.
The late Abdulkarim Al Arayyadh was born in Manama in 1934. He co-founded the Arts Amateurs Association and actively participated in all its exhibitions. He later established the Bahrain Contemporary Arts Association, which he presided over for multiple terms.
In 1960, he opened a permanent gallery to showcase his works.
