Registration for one of the kingdom’s longest running beauty and personality pageants has officially been declared open by the biggest expatriate club in the kingdom … with organisers confident the show will run a lot more smoothly than last year.
May Queen 2025 will be staged on May 2 at the Indian Club in Gudaibiya, with an array of prizes for the leading contestants in store, including cash, jewellery, fashion accessories and gift hampers.
The contest is open to women of any nationality aged between 17 and 27 years. There is no restriction on nationality. Previous editions of the event have witnessed contestants from a range of countries, including Bahrain, India, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Russia, Philippines, France and Ethiopia.
The pageant will feature three rounds –
- Casual wear
- Ethnic or national costume
- Party wear.
- It will be followed by a final question-and-answer round.
Titles up for grabs are the much coveted Indian Club May Queen 2025, first runner-up and second runner-up. Winners will also be selected in categories such as Best Smile, Best Hairdo, Best Walk and Audience Choice.
In addition to the pageant, traditional and modern dance performances will also be staged.
Running for more than 60 years, the Indian Club May Queen is one of the kingdom’s most glittering events, with past winners going on to carve successful careers, like Bollywood celebrity and Sri Lankan national Jacqueline Fernandez, who grew up in Bahrain and attended Sacred Heart School.
However, the contest has been surrounded by controversy on more than one occasion. Last year’s pageant witnessed a row when the initial winner was asked to return her crown days after the event due to a ‘calculation error’, as previously reported in the GDN.
A re-crowning ceremony was staged in June, announcing Astral Cutinha as the winner, after she was declared the first runner-up on the night of the contest.
- Last day for May Queen 2025 registrations is April 10. An entry free of BD10 is applicable. Those who wish to participate or sponsor the event can call 39660475 or 39279570.
