Bahrain’s moon-sighting panel, which met last night, announced today as the first day of Eid Al Fitr.
It made the announcement after no one came forward to testify in Bahrain and the crescent moon had been sighted in Saudi Arabia.
The kingdom’s hospitality sector is hoping for a big business boost during the Eid holidays, with hotels witnessing a rise in bookings from GCC residents, as well as Bahrainis who are opting for staycations instead of travelling abroad.
Tens of thousands of people are also expected to travel into the kingdom through King Fahad Causeway for the holiday.
Patrols will be out in force to ensure a smooth flow of the expected increased traffic during the holiday, traffic authorities said earlier, as reported by the GDN.
Road users have been urged to follow rules and co-operate with officers who will be present to regulate traffic and maintain public safety.
