MOTORSPORT – BAHRAINI-British GT team 2 Seas Motorsport triumphed yesterday in the season-opening round of the 2025 British GT Championship, held at Donington Park Circuit in the UK.
The 2 Seas pair of Charles Dawson and Kiern Jewiss, driving the team’s #42 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, claimed a superb lights-to-flag victory in a hotly contested two-hour race.
Their teammates Kevin Tse and Maximilian Gotz in 2 Seas’ #18 contender also had reason to celebrate, joining Dawson and Jewiss on the podium in third place overall.
2 Seas are co-owned by Bahrain’s Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa. They are amongst the top outfits competing in the series’ GT3 Pro-Am category.
“2 Seas know how to put a car together and we’re fortunate to be doing what we’re doing and doing it with some of the best people,” said Dawson after Jewiss brought the car home at the chequered flag.
Jewiss added: “It was hard to know, being the first race of the season, how much you have left at the end, and we were just trying to manage the tyres.
“We managed it really well and a big thank you to the team and Charles – he’s done an amazing job this weekend.”
Dawson and Jewiss were making their GT3 debut as a tandem and surprised many with their pace in qualifying on Saturday, having captured pole position for yesterday’s endurance challenge.
But any hopes they had of disappearing into the distance were dashed by safety car periods throughout the race.
The fight for the victory wasn’t settled until the final lap. Jewiss battled hard to keep Sandy Mitchell of Barwell Motorsport behind him, with Mitchell coming within a second in the closing stages. That became a nose-to-tail 0.5s gap, but Jewiss held his nerve until the finish.
Jewiss secured first place with a 1.106s gap from Mitchell, who shared duties with Barwell teammate Alex Martin in their Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2.
Tse and Gotz followed in third place 11.131s from the winners to climb on the podium.
Optimum Motorsport’s Morgan Tillbrook and Marvin Kirchhofer finished fourth 13.996s adrift, while Team Abba Racing’s Richard Neary and Sean Neary were fifth 23.818s behind. Both tandems were also driving Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evos amongst the 14-car GT3 field.
This season, 2 Seas are hoping to repeat their title-winning success in the GT3 teams’ championship from 2023. They enjoyed a solid campaign last year, which saw them claim two race wins and a pole position.
The 2025 British GT Championship features nine rounds on the calendar, to be held across six meetings in the UK and one in Belgium.
The series returns to action with round two at Silverstone Circuit from April 25 to 27. Rounds three and four will then be held at Oulton Park over the weekend of May 23 to 26, then the series will move to Spa-Francorchamps for round five from June 20 to 22.
Snetterton will host rounds six and seven from July 11 to 13, round eight will be at Brands Hatch on August 23 and 24, and then the ninth and final round will be back at Donington Park on October 4 and 5.
