Supreme Council for Health chairman Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa emphasised that Bahrain’s accomplishments in achieving universal health coverage reflect its strong commitment to providing the highest standards of healthcare to all members of society.
He noted that these efforts enhance its health system capabilities, placing the kingdom at the forefront of nations prioritising public health.
Lt Gen Dr Shaikh Mohammed highlighted the continuous support the health sector receives from His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. This support has contributed to significant achievements in developing the national healthcare system.
Marking World Health Day, observed annually on April 7, he noted that this year’s World Health Day theme, ‘Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures’ underscores the importance of investing in health as a core pillar for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring better community well-being.
He highlighted the close co-operation between Bahrain and World Health Organisation (WHO), which has played a key role in improving healthcare services and strengthening responses to health challenges. This includes the opening of a WHO country office in the kingdom to enhance co-operation.
