A comprehensive traffic plan has been drawn up as the country prepares to welcome thousands of residents and visitors to the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025 this weekend.
This includes reactivating vehicle checkpoints on the roads leading to Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) to prevent unauthorised access, expanded entry gates with additional electronic access points, and the installation of three temporary pedestrian bridges to ensure safe crowd movement.
These measures have been implemented in co-ordination with the Works Ministry and the General Directorate of Civil Defence.
They were revealed by General Directorate of Traffic operations and traffic monitoring director Lieutenant-Colonel Adel Al Doseri during a Press conference at the BIC Media Centre yesterday.
The traffic plan is part of a series of measures that have been introduced in collaboration with Team Bahrain partners to enhance the fan experience at the upcoming F1 weekend.
BIC chief executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, who was also present at yesterday’s conference, stressed that the kingdom remains committed to maintaining its exemplary standards in hosting major global events, such as the grand prix.
Others in attendance were representatives from the Interior Ministry’s General Directorate of Traffic, the National Communications Centre (NCC), and BIC.
Meanwhile, BIC chief commercial officer Sherif Al Mahdy said that all Grandstand tickets for the race weekend, as well as tickets to the Paddock Club, Corporate Lounges, and The Champions Club, have been sold out.
Mr Al Mahdy added that only a limited number of tickets remain for The Dome Lounge hospitality experience, and urged spectators not to travel to the circuit without tickets, as no tickets will be available for purchase at the venue.
BIC corporate services director Beshara Abdu Beshara explained that this year’s preparations include a series of improvements and developments designed with the spectators in mind.
Among these is an increase in parking capacity with the allocation of additional spaces at Exhibition World Bahrain, in addition to installing a system of electronic screens at Gulf of Bahrain Avenue, including five temporary screens and seven permanent screens, to provide essential information and crowd guidance.
Furthermore, to facilitate movement, newly designed vehicle permits incorporating QR codes have been introduced to help fans easily locate their designated parking areas. Additional taxi stands have also been established in various parking zones in co-ordination with the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry, Mr Beshara explained.
He noted that efforts are underway to raise public awareness of these measures and a comprehensive film detailing the traffic plan during F1 weekend has been prepared for the purpose.
Mr Beshara emphasised the importance of spectators familiarising themselves with these proactive arrangements, which have been developed through comprehensive co-ordination between all relevant authorities in the kingdom, including the Interior Ministry, the Information Ministry and the NCC. This ensures the accuracy, consistency and availability of information.
The Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will be held from Friday to Sunday.
