The Cabinet yesterday reviewed preparations for Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix which begins at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) on Friday.
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, chaired yesterday’s weekly meeting at Gudaibiya Palace.
The Cabinet welcomed participating teams, visitors, and fans as the race marks its 21st anniversary of being held in Bahrain.
The session extended its best wishes to the organisers and participants for a successful event.
A comprehensive traffic plan has been drawn up as the country prepares to welcome thousands of residents and visitors to the grand prix this weekend. This includes reactivating vehicle checkpoints on the roads leading to BIC to prevent unauthorised access, expanded entry gates with additional electronic access points, and the installation of three temporary pedestrian bridges to ensure safe crowd movement.
These measures have been implemented in co-ordination with the Works Ministry and the General Directorate of Civil Defence.
They were revealed by General Directorate of Traffic operations and traffic monitoring director Lieutenant-Colonel Adel Al Doseri during a Press conference at the BIC Media Centre yesterday.
The traffic plan is part of a series of measures that have been introduced in collaboration with Team Bahrain partners to enhance the fan experience at the upcoming F1 weekend.
The Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF) is also finalising preparations to host the grand prix. The car recovery team is a key part of the safety system supporting the event.
The team, which operates under the BMF’s emergency unit, is responsible for promptly and safely removing disabled cars from the track while maintaining the highest safety standards for both team members and race participants.
