Parliament First Deputy Speaker and member of the Committee on Peace and International Security at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Abdulnabi Salman emphasised that the committee had reached consensus in support of a draft resolution endorsing the two-state solution for Palestine.
The decision came during its meeting held as part of the 150th IPU Assembly in Uzbekistan.
Mr Salman welcomed the agreement among parliamentary groups regarding the draft resolution, describing it as a reflection of the international commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause and upholding the rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state.
He emphasised that the two-state solution, based on the Arab Peace Initiative and international agreements, remains the path to achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.
He noted that the draft resolution will be submitted for official adoption by the IPU General Assembly, noting that support from national parliaments sends a strong message of solidarity with the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Mr Salman highlighted that this broad parliamentary consensus underscores the growing importance of parliamentary diplomacy as a force for global peace and underscores that the Palestinian cause continues to receive the attention of the international parliamentary community despite regional and global challenges.
MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan has been elected as the representative of the Arab Group to the Forum of Young Parliamentarians of the IPU, during the 150th IPU Assembly.
This marks a new milestone in Bahrain’s parliamentary diplomacy. The announcement was made by the IPU Governing Council, following the Arab Group’s endorsement of his nomination.
Mr Ibrahim described his election as a recognition by both Arab and international parliaments of the active role played by Bahrain’s parliamentary division.
