RUGBY – BAHRAIN’S First XV barged into the final yesterday of 2024-25 Men’s West Asia Super Rugby.
The kingdom’s representatives secured their spot after edging past the Abu Dhabi Harlequins First XV 29-21 in a thrilling contest played at Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC) in Saar.
The team’s roster in yesterday’s affair included Matt McKee, Mackenzie Oliver, Henry Paul, Henk Gouws, Awethu Lushozi, Aled Morris, Charlie Farmer, Lindsey Gibson, Romeo Eksteen, Cormac Fox, Greg Heath, Dai Evans, Jack Phillips, Josh Petro, Josh Drain, Nick Young, Dan Mau’u, Tian Jacobs, Alastair Crombie, Jack Jarvis, James Newey, Joel Kidgell, and Deina Morete.
The home team fought back after the visitors were on the board first.
With yesterday’s result, Bahrain’s First XV maintained their unbeaten run so far this season in Men’s West Asia Super Rugby.
They completed the competition’s preliminary round campaign with a pristine record in 12 games, and will now be looking to cap their perfect campaign in the final, scheduled for Saturday next week in Dubai.
They will be taking on the winners of the other semi-final between the Dubai Exiles First XV and the Dubai Hurricanes First XV for the title.
Bahrain now have two of the kingdom’s rugby teams competing for regional titles. The kingdom’s Second XV are in the final of the 2024-25 Men’s UAE Division One Rugby. There, they will take on the Dubai Tigers First XV in the title clash, also scheduled for April 19.
