A man admitted to punching a motorist on the nose following a road rage-induced car accident, leaving the latter with a long-term injury, the High Criminal Court heard.
In the October 2023 incident, the 37-year-old defendant allegedly assaulted the driver of a vehicle he had collided with.
The punch resulted in a deviation of the victim’s nasal septum.
The Bahraini labourer, who lives in Tubli, had stopped on the shoulder of the highway to inspect the damage to his car, when the fight broke out.
After the assault, the Syrian victim reportedly began experiencing breathing difficulties, as the impact caused his nostrils to narrow, which, according to a medical examiner, amounted to a six per cent disability.
“Leading up to the incident, the defendant and I had an argument on the road, which led to a car accident,” the 30-year-old Information Ministry employee told the Public Prosecution.
“We both parked on the side of the road, and then we started arguing about who was at fault.
“Then, he started shouting obscenities at me, pushed me and punched me in the face twice.”
The accused admitted to committing an assault on a public road. The impact of the punch bent the victim’s nose, resulting in a deviated septum and a partial blockage of his respiratory tract.
The trial continues.
