Health Minister Dr Jalila Al Sayyed received acting representative of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Bahrain and head of the Country Office Dr Asad Hafeez.
The meeting was attended by ministry Under-Secretary Dr Lulua Showaiter, Government Hospitals chief executive Dr Mariam Al Jalahma, and Primary Health Care Centres CEO Dr Ijlal Al Alawi.
Dr Al Sayyed emphasised the importance to continue strengthening strategic partnership between Bahrain and the WHO to highlight the kingdom’s achievements in promoting a sustainable and comprehensive health system. She expressed gratitude and appreciation for the continuous support of the WHO in implementing joint health projects and initiatives.
The minister noted that work is ongoing to implement Bahrain’s initiatives adopted at the 33rd Arab Summit chaired by His Majesty King Hamad last May. She also highlighted the significance of the Bahrain Declaration in addressing various issues pertaining mainly to improving healthcare for those affected by conflicts and wars in the region, developing the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries in Arab countries.
Dr Hafeez provided an overview of the upcoming 78th World Health Assembly, scheduled to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, under the theme “One World for Health.” He also highlighted the proposal for a “Pandemic Accord” aimed at enhancing global co-operation in preventing and responding to future pandemics.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry organised a workshop for the medical, administrative, and technical staff participating in the official Haj campaigns this year under the theme “We Care for Your Health So You Can Complete Your Haj”.
The workshop was attended by officials from the health sector, the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry, Bahrain Haj Mission, and Haj campaigns.
Dr Showaiter affirmed Bahrain’s continuous efforts to serve its pilgrims through ongoing co-operation between the Health Ministry, the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry, and the Bahrain Haj Mission.
“These efforts aim to ensure the provision of optimum healthcare and medical services for the pilgrims,” she said, highlighting the importance of the workshop to review preparations for the Haj season.
