Bahrain is set to join a global movement of hope, determination and unity as it hosts the Wings for Life World Run – a special charity race that brings together both runners and wheelchair-users from across the globe to raise money for spinal cord research projects.
The event, which will begin at noon on May 4 at the Avenues Bahrain, is being supported by BMMI, Bahrain Road Runners, General Sports Authority and Bahrain Olympic Committee.
It aims to raise funds to find a cure for spinal cord injuries (SCI), which could cause paralysis, leading to a person relying on others for assistance.
One hundred per cent of the profits will go directly to spinal cord research projects.
Whether you are a seasoned marathoner or a casual jogger, the event is designed for all abilities, celebrating the spirit of participation and raising awareness of SCI.
Unlike any other race, there is no fixed finish line for the event. Instead, there will be a (Virtual) Catcher Car that begins its chase 30 minutes after the start signal, gradually accelerating to catch up with all participants.
According to figures from the World Health Organisation, more than 15 million people globally are living with a SCI.
Bahrain’s participation holds special meaning. As a nation that embraces innovation and charity, hosting the Wings for Life World Run reflects the kingdom’s commitment to inclusivity, health and scientific advancement.
Lace up your shoes, fuel your spirit and be part of something truly extraordinary. The event isn’t just about finishing a race – it is about moving the world, one step at a time.
Doors open at noon, and the race starts at 2pm at the Avenues Bahrain.
Wings for Life, a not-for-profit foundation for spinal cord research, uses donations to support promising research projects and clinical studies worldwide to find a cure for spinal cord injuries.
So far, 324 research projects have been funded in 20 countries by more than 670 experts.
Since its first run in 2014, more than 1,559,534 participants have raised more than 51 million euros (BD21,889,200) for the cause.
