A constitutional amendment that would see the government providing social housing to all citizens regardless of their income was submitted yesterday.
The amendment by 25 MPs is spearheaded by Abdulwahid Qarata who said many Bahrainis were struggling to get housing.
The amendment has been referred by Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam to the legislative and legal affairs committee for review.
Parliament also unanimously approved an urgent proposal by five MPs led by Mr Qarata to reinstate social housing applications of Bahrainis who have exceeded the limit of BD1,200 monthly income under the old system and referred it to the Cabinet for review.
Parliament also unanimously approved an urgent proposal to stop action against Jidhafs Central Market traders.
The urgent proposal, by five MPs led by legislative and legal affairs committee chairman and area MP Mahmood Fardan, has been forwarded to the Cabinet for review.
Mr Al Musallam questioned the status of surrounding empty lands and was informed it was either owned by the Jidhafs Consumer Co-operative Society or private property.
MP Mamdooh Al Saleh said following a WhatsApp conversation with Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak that reasonable solutions were being sought to organise the place and not harm traders.
Parliament also unanimously approved a proposal by five MPs led by Muneer Suroor to oblige medicine delivery companies hired by the Health Ministry to deliver medicines to Bahrainis at their homes to have 100 per cent Bahraini staff.
It has been forwarded to the Cabinet for review.
