A number of Bahraini workers were honoured yesterday for their contributions to national development at ceremonies marking International Labour Day, which falls today.
The events were organised under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad by the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions and the Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation.
Legal Affairs and Acting Labour Minister Yousif Khalaf and Arab Labour Organisation (ALO) director general Fayez Al Mutairi attended.
Mr Khalaf conveyed the greetings of His Majesty and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, highlighting workers’ central role in economic growth and labour market stability.
He noted Bahrain’s commitment to advancing social dialogue, adapting to technological change, and enhancing workforce skills. He also highlighted recent initiatives, particularly the National Labour Market Plan (2023-2026), and updated legislation aligned with international standards to support productivity and job sustainability.
Mr Al Mutairi commended Bahraini workers and emphasised the ALO’s support for safe, modern work environments. Union representatives also underlined their commitment to protecting workers’ rights and supporting national development.
Mr Khalaf sent a cable of congratulations to His Majesty on behalf of all workers in the kingdom and expressed gratitude for the royal support. He also sent a cable of thanks to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He emphasised continued commitment to supporting labour market stability and contributing to Bahrain’s development under the leadership of His Majesty.
Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam, in a statement, affirmed the crucial role of the King’s visions, as well as the directives and ongoing follow-up of HRH Prince Salman in supporting the employment of Bahrainis and providing them with quality job opportunities in the public and private sectors.
He underscored Parliament’s continued support for employment programmes tailored for Bahrainis to cater for the market needs in line with Bahrain Vision 2030.
He praised the efforts of all institutions and labour unions in contributing to the country’s advancement and achieving the desired goals, in accordance with a legislative framework, executive procedures, labour initiatives, and pioneering programmes that support professional development, uphold the workers’ human rights, promote national economic growth, and ensure social stability.
Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh affirmed that workers in the public and private sectors continue to receive the support of His Majesty. He expressed pride in the dedication of Bahraini workers, whose commitment contributes significantly to national progress.
Mr Al Saleh commended the development of Bahrain’s labour system, attributing it to His Majesty’s vision and continued support for national growth. He noted that the kingdom’s achievements across sectors reflect the outcomes of the royal directives and have strengthened Bahrain’s regional and international standing.
He praised the government, led by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for initiatives that support sustainable development, promote economic growth, and safeguard workers’ rights.
He emphasised the council’s commitment to further developing labour legislation to protect workers and enhance their role in national development. He also commended the efforts of Team Bahrain, whose contributions have advanced the kingdom’s comprehensive development under the leadership of His Majesty.
