Bahraini content creator Omar Farooq has won the Akhlaquna Award for individual contributions from GCC countries.
He was recognised for his social awareness Ramadan programme ‘Ana Laha’ (I am up for it) which has garnered more than 800 million views across two seasons and gained wide popularity in the Arab world.
A total of 14 winners of the Akhlaquna Awards were honoured at a ceremony in Doha for their inspiring and impactful community initiatives in Qatar and the GCC.
Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development vice chairperson and chief executive Shaikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani presented the awards during the ceremony at Education City.
Akhlaquna is an initiative launched in 2017 by foundation chairperson Shaikha Moza bint Nasser to highlight the relationship between knowledge and ethics, while also advocating for ethics as a fundamental pillar for achieving success in multiple facets of life.
The initiative is inspired by the noble teachings of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), such as mercy, tolerance, honesty, generosity, humility, trustworthiness, justice and equality.
The awards are given across four categories: Akhlaquna Junior and Akhlaquna Youth awards, for ages 7-14 and 14-18 respectively; the Individual Contributions award for ages 19-45; and the Akhlaquna Appreciation Award for individuals who exhibit dedication and devotion in their work.
Mr Farooq highlighted that the award was not just a personal achievement but a tribute to everyone in Bahrain who took part in the ‘Ana Laha’ initiative and contributed to its success through their genuine, instinctive responses to the situations presented in the programme.
The initiative showcases real-life scenarios reflecting compassion and solidarity in Bahraini society, and aims to strengthen social bonds and promote co-operation among community members.
Mr Farooq described the initiative as a real-life experience that reflected the strong moral and human values of Arab communities, proving that these principles are not mere slogans but deeply rooted values that show goodness remains present in society.
The media personality emphasised the urgent need to revive ethical values in Arab communities, which is at the heart of the award’s message. He noted that media stereotypes often fail to reflect the true moral fabric of the Arab world.
The Individual Contributions category was recently introduced under the Akhlaquna Awards to recognise impactful initiatives that promote ethical values in society.
