Two employees at Bapco Refining Company died this morning while responding to a leak from a safety valve at one of the company’s units.
A third worker was seriously injured and remains in intensive care.
Bapco confirmed the incident in a statement today, offering its condolences to the families of the deceased and expressing hope for the injured employee’s recovery.
The workers were investigating the leak on-site when the tragic accident occurred.
Emergency teams from the Interior Ministry, Civil Defence and Bapco’s specialised response unit intervened quickly, managing to contain the leak and stabilise the situation.
The company said the incident was handled according to international safety standards and that the site was now under full control.
Necessary preventive measures have been taken and operations are continuing with a focus on employee and environmental safety, the company added.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the leak.
