More than 350 workers and staff members of a leading professional contracting company celebrated Labour Day with fun activities and health awareness programmes.
Interlock Construction and Maintenance and Interlock Services, who specialise in road safety barriers, mechanical engineering works, road construction and asphalt works, showed their appreciation for their workers with a day out at Fadak Garden in Saddad.
The annual Health Camp, which has been going on for more than five years, saw employees gather at around 7.30am at the garden for a live cooking breakfast, followed by a variety of entertainment and awareness programmes.
Labourers got moving, playing football and volleyball, and then cooled down with a dip in the swimming pools.
They were also given a half-hour presentation on ways to improve safety at worksites, and the importance of adhering to safety standards.
An expert gave a speech on healthcare and highlighted the dangers of drunk-driving.
Interlock managing director K T Ramraj told the GDN that the event was held to not only give the workers a well-deserved day off, but also to encourage them to look after themselves.
“We want every one of our labourers to feel like they are our family,” said Mr Ramraj.
“Without these workers, we cannot run this company, they are our lifeblood. They are constantly working under the sun, and in other adverse weather conditions, to contribute to the company. So we wanted to show how much we really do appreciate them.
“Therefore, I would like to personally thank the workers for their tireless efforts.
“I would also like to thank His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for enabling us to work for the Bahraini government and people.”
