US President Donald Trump is planning to announce the US’ official adoption of the name ‘Arabian Gulf’ during his upcoming visit to the Middle East.
This move comes amid advanced talks between Washington and Tehran regarding Iran’s nuclear programme. Arab efforts have been pushing to change the historical name of the water body located off the southern coast of Iran.
Two senior US officials, who requested anonymity, said that the report on the potential change was submitted in light of the advanced talks between the US and Iran about the nuclear agreement.
Trump’s regional tour is scheduled to begin next week, including visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, between May 13 and 16. A ‘major announcement’ is expected during the trip, the US President said.
