Bahrain and Syria have officially opened ‘a new page’ in their relations following a high-level meeting between His Majesty King Hamad and Syrian President Ahmed Al Sharaa at Sakhir Palace.
The comprehensive discussion session was held in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The discussions covered the latest developments in Syria and ways to support the country’s security and stability.
The meeting, described as both historic and strategic, also focused on reaffirming the strong ties between the two nations and charting a path forward for deeper co-operation across critical sectors, including trade, civil aviation, energy, health and education.
Upon arrival at Sakhir Palace, President Al Sharaa was welcomed by His Majesty.
The King wished him success in achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people.
President Al Sharaa expressed appreciation to His Majesty for the warm reception and Bahrain’s stance towards Syria and its people.
His Majesty and President Al Sharaa discussed regional developments and the efforts undertaken in that regard.
The King later hosted a luncheon in honour of President Al Sharaa and the accompanying delegation.
President Al Sharaa was welcomed on arrival in Bahrain by His Majesty’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani later met Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al Shaibani and addressed a joint Press conference at the Sakhir Air Base.
