Hundreds of participants and spectators turned out for the conclusion of the inaugural Mawrooth Traditional Games on May 7 at Bab Al Bahrain’s Post Museum.
The series of tournaments, organised by the Bahrain Inherited Traditional Sports Committee (Mawrooth), saw a vibrant atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and a deep connection to Bahrain’s ancestral heritage.
It was organised as part of the committee’s ongoing efforts to preserve authentic Bahraini heritage for future generations and promote the cultural relevance of traditional games by transforming these competitions into a national festival.
The aim was to showcase Bahrain’s national identity and revive the spirit of communal play and social interaction reminiscent of old neighbourhoods and traditional markets.
The competitions showcased healthy sportsmanship, which added a fun and patriotic spirit to the event.
Mawrooth emphasised that this championship is part of a broader series of events aimed at preserving the nation’s traditional games and reviving them in a competitive format to engage younger generations.
The committee also aims to uphold the values of community play and social bonding that have historically characterised Gulf societies.
In terms of results, Ahmed Hassan won the Hands (Rummy) Tournament, followed by Salman Hussain and Yusuf Rashid.
The Dominoes Tournament was won Hussain Abbas, with Sayed Hashem finishing second and Faisal Abdulla finishing third.
As for Kot 6, Champions Team, comprising Mubarak Al Fadel, Rashid Al Benali and Abdulla Benali, won first place.
Isa Town Team, led by Abbas Al Aradi, Hussain Salman and Ibrahim Abdulaziz came in second. L.ALRIFFA, featuring Mohamed Al Hanafi, Abdulaziz Al Dhawadi, and Ibrahim Al Dossari, finished third.
Doubles Carrom was won by Salman Makki and Abdulla Abdulmoneim (Team Ricky), followed by Hassan Mohammed and Ahmed Hassan (Team Foulath) second, with Ahmed Jassim and Mahmood Ibrahim (Team Al Nemir) third.
Mawrooth also expressed its gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the championship, including organisers, participants and volunteers. It reaffirmed its commitment to continue hosting events that strengthen national identity and keep traditional games alive in the collective memory of Bahraini society.
