People looking to purchase livestock for Eid Al Adha sacrifice have been warned against buying them from unverified social media platforms.
The General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security said several fraudsters were running accounts on Instagram and other platforms, claiming that they have livestock for sale ‘at a good price’.
“They demand payment in advance, and then proceed to take the money without delivering what was promised in return,” the directorate said.
“Do not purchase anything online from unverified sources and do not send money to untrustworthy accounts.
“Only purchase meat and livestock from verified and licensed sources within the kingdom,” it added.
Eid Al Adha is expected to begin on the evening of June 6 and end on June 10.
The religious holiday, which is also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice, honours the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of submission to God’s command.
Meat purchased for Eid is divided into three parts – for the family, for relatives, friends and neighbours and the remaining for the poor and needy.
Those who have fallen victim to such frauds are being urged to contact the hotline at 992. People are also being encouraged to join the Financial and Cyber Crimes WhatsApp groups, available in Arabic and English, by going to the @acees_bh Instagram page and clicking on the link in the bio.
