A mother and an unidentified person have been detained provisionally as the Public Prosecution investigates a widely circulated audio clip on social media in which a young girl talks about being sexually harassed along with her sisters.
The Interior Ministry announced on Sunday night that the Northern Police Directorate had taken legal measure in an ongoing family dispute between a mother and a father which featured multiple cases between the two parties.
Yesterday, the Sharia Court ordered the removal of the children from their home where the alleged harassment is reported to have taken place and placed in the protective care of a trustworthy female relative of the family.
“This is to safeguard their mental health,” said a statement.
The arrangement will remain in place until the court issues a final judgement.
According to the deputy head of Family and Child Prosecution, investigations have already been launched into five reports filed by the children’s father against their mother.
The Interior Ministry’s Child Protection Unit in Cyberspace investigated the contents of the clip, which was widely circulated on social media and then pursued appropriate action.
Authorities have noted the father’s testimony, and interrogated both the mother and the individual accused of harassment, both of whom were later put in pretrial detention.
“The investigation is being conducted on multiple fronts to fully understand the circumstances and gather verbal, material and forensic evidence,” the Public Prosecution said in the statement.
“All legal measures are being taken to protect and provide care for the children.
“The victims have been referred to social and psychological experts to assess their environment, emotional condition and the extent to which they were affected.”
It was also stated that the children have been enrolled in the child protection and welfare initiative ‘Rayaa’ to ensure they receive necessary support and protection.
A social expert will also monitor their well-being and submit regular reports.
In January, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Nawaf Al Maawda highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to safeguarding children, enhancing their welfare and protecting them from mistreatment.
He stressed that the law has been aligned with national priorities and international standards, ensuring that children’s rights are protected in every respect.
