A capacity audience of film-lovers, diplomats and dignitaries attended the grand opening of the third FrancoFilm Festival.
The launch was held at Epix Cinemas, Dana Mall, and inaugurated by French Ambassador Eric Giraud-Telme and Information Ministry’s Under-Secretary Yousef Albinkhalil.
The opening night featured the screening of The Count of Monte Cristo (2024), directed by Alexandre de la Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte.
A fresh take on the iconic novel by Alexandre Dumas, the film has become a major box office success in France, drawing nearly 10 million viewers and earning multiple awards.

Ambassadors, senior officials and guests at the festival opening
Shown for the first time in Bahrain, the screening attracted around 250 guests.
The FrancoFilm Festival is a tribute to the creativity and cultural vibrancy of Francophone cinema worldwide, building on the 19th Francophonie Summit held last year at the newly-inaugurated ‘Cité internationale de la langue française’ in Villers-Cotterêts.
The festival ends tomorrow after showcasing a wide selection of French-language films and productions from French-speaking countries.
It will close with a special screening of the film La Ville Louvre by Nicolas Philibert (1990) at 6pm tomorrow, at the Bahrain National Museum in collaboration with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca).
All screenings are free and open to the public with no reservation required.
