Residents of Gaza are experiencing extreme hunger after more than three months of a continuous blockade, during which food and medical supplies have been prevented from reaching the people.
In a painful testimony from one of the staff members working with ActionAid International’s partner organisations, a mother said, “Our last meal was three days ago, during which my children and I shared just one loaf of bread.”
She added that in the area where she is displaced, three pregnant women have lost their unborn children due to severe malnutrition.
Alaa, the emergency response director at ActionAid in Gaza, who was also displaced from his home in Deir Al Balah, said, “People here can only carry the clothes on their backs. They are suffering from hunger and exhaustion due to relentless bombing. Gaza has become hell on earth... the situation is unbearable.”
ActionAid International stated that thousands of families in the strip are suffering as the ongoing Israeli bombardment escalates and supplies run out.
“Hundreds have been killed, and nearly 100,000 people have been displaced in the past few days due to the major escalation of ground and air attacks by the occupation army.”
The statement added that staff working with one of the organisation’s partners in Deir Al Balah were forced to evacuate their offices and homes, despite having no safe places for them to hide, as the intense attacks on Gaza continue daily.
“Evacuation orders have been issued for 80pc of the land in Gaza, increasing the suffering of people who have nowhere else to go,” it said.
