A new technical secondary school for boys could be built in Hamad Town, if councillors have their way.
The Northern Municipal Council has unanimously approved a proposal by its services and public utilities committee chairman Abdulla Shareeda Al Thawadi, who believes a school in the area would reduce commute times of residents pursuing technical education.
The proposed site is a portion of plot No 10037146, located in Block 1212 of east Hamad Town, with a total area of 48,351.265 square metres.
“The absence of a technical secondary school for boys in Hamad Town has placed a heavy burden on families,” said Mr Al Thawadi.

“Many students living in the area must wake up as early as 4am just to catch a 5am bus to reach either Shaikh Abdulla Technical School in Isa Town or Al Jabriya Technical School in Zinj.
“Their classes start at 7am, and this daily struggle is exhausting – not just for students, but also their parents.”
He emphasised that the proposed school would dramatically reduce commute times and improve educational access for students in the area.
“This project would directly serve the needs of Hamad Town’s rapidly growing population and meet a long-standing demand from local residents,” he added.
“This is not just a school, it is a social necessity that responds to a critical educational gap and addresses the real, daily hardships faced by students and parents in our community.
“If approved by the government, this would mark a significant step towards expanding technical education infrastructure in Bahrain’s newer urban zones, aligning with broader national development goals and workforce readiness initiatives.”
The proposal was explained in a presentation during the council’s meeting by Mr Al Thawadi.
Another unrelated councillor with the same name, Abdulla Ibrahim Al Thawadi, who represents Constituency 11 (southern Hamad Town and Dar Kulaib), strongly supported the proposal, noting its far-reaching benefits.
“This school will serve not only Hamad Town’s residents but also students from nearby villages and towns such as Dar Kulaib, Malkiya, Karzakan and Sadad,” said Mr Abdulla Ibrahim Al Thawadi.

“It’s a long-overdue investment that will help equip our youth with practical skills and reduce pressure on existing schools in central areas.”
The proposal has been referred to Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak to forward to Education Minister Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma for review.
