Bahrain participated in the United Nations Security Council open debate on “Strengthening Maritime Security through International Co-operation for Global Stability”, chaired by Hellenic Republic Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Bahrain underscored its commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at ensuring maritime security and enhancing regional and international stability. Bahrain also reiterated its readiness to work alongside brotherly, friendly, and allied nations to safeguard maritime navigation and confront related threats.
Bahrain’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York Jamal Fares Al Ruwaiei highlighted the growing threats facing international waters and sea lanes due to illicit activities, terrorism, cyber threats, and environmental degradation. He noted that these challenges directly affect food security, energy security, and the stability of the global economy, and undermine international peace and security.
He emphasised Bahrain’s continued historic and strategic role in safeguarding maritime security by promoting international co-operation to counter both traditional and emerging maritime threats, protecting supply chains and trade across vital sea routes, and supporting peace operations and crisis response efforts.
