Bahrain’s International Dispute Resolution Council secretary general Professor Marike Paulsson delivered the closing remarks as guest of honour at the open meeting held to promote international co-operation in arbitration, during the 13th St Petersburg International Legal Forum.
The event was organised by the Russian Council for the Improvement of Arbitration Proceedings under the auspices of the Russian Justice Ministry.
The session, titled ‘Open Meeting of the Council for the Improvement of Arbitration Proceedings’, brought together a group of prominent local and international experts, including representatives from the Russian Chamber of Commerce, the Bar of Corporate Lawyers chair, and speakers from Hong Kong, Cairo and Dubai.
The meeting discussed an initiative to establish a regional centre for investor-state dispute settlement, including a proposed framework for the centre featuring a diverse administrative structure, broad lists of arbitrators and conciliators, and an efficient, transparent secretariat to support flexible international trade.
Professor Paulsson noted Bahrain’s readiness to support and host foreign arbitration institutions seeking to provide neutral dispute resolution services, taking advantage of the kingdom’s stable and impartial legal infrastructure.
The participation forms part of the efforts of the Council for International Dispute Resolution to advance Bahrain’s leading role in international arbitration and emphasises its commitment to shaping the future of investment and commercial dispute resolution globally, supporting collaborative solutions that promote stability, justice, and sustainable growth in international business and investment.
