Bahrain’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term has garnered attention and appreciation from member states.
Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Ruwaie said that the positive engagement reflects the international community’s respect for Bahrain’s balanced foreign policy, its consistent support for peaceful solutions, commitment to the principles of international law, and its distinguished global reputation.
Bahrain’s diplomatic mission has been keen on building effective bridges of communication with all geographical and political groups through bilateral meetings and active participation in various UN events, he told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
He underlined the kingdom’s unwavering commitment to support international peace and security, prevent conflicts, protect civilians, and enhance humanitarian efforts. “The kingdom will also give significant attention to advancing women’s issues, empowering youth, addressing climate change, and ensuring maritime security,” he affirmed.
“What distinguishes Bahrain’s vision is its sincere commitment to dialogue and mutual understanding, and its ability to engage with everyone in a positive and constructive spirit,” he said.
“The values of tolerance and openness that the kingdom upholds are not mere slogans, but deeply rooted practices in our foreign policy. These values will shape our engagement within the UN Security Council and contribute to fostering consensus among members – something that is critically needed at this crucial time.
“Our message to the international community is that Bahrain is running for the seat in a spirit of partnership, and with deep conviction that peace and security are a shared responsibility. We present ourselves as a responsible and active partner, seeking to bridge differences and support sustainable solutions,” he said.
The candidacy is a reflection of Bahraini people’s values, civilisational role, and the vision of His Majesty King Hamad. It also stems from the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, he said, adding, “We aspire for Bahrain, through this seat, to be a voice that represents the aspirations of our region and its peoples, and to contribute to a safer, more peaceful and more just future for the entire world.”
