Three Asians have been arrested at Bahrain International Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 10kg of marijuana.
The Customs Directorate of Air Ports Affairs made the arrest, in co-operation with the Anti-Narcotics Directorate at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science.
Customs officials grew suspicious when the three passengers arrived, and told them to go to the red channel. Upon examining their luggage, it was discovered that more than 10kg of marijuana were cleverly hidden inside food product containers.
The officers seized the drugs, and referred the case to the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, which arrested more suspects inside the country for their involvement in the case and for possessing more than half a kilogramme of heroin. The total street value of the seized narcotics was estimated at BD185,500.
The Anti-Narcotics Directorate affirmed that necessary legal measures were taken and the case was referred to the Public Prosecution.
