Three Bahraini children have been orphaned after their parents were killed in a horrific car crash yesterday.
Ahmed Al Orrayedh and Fatema Al Qaidoom were headed to their home in Markh in the early hours of the morning when their car collided with another vehicle.
The accident occurred on a side road, heading from the direction of Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway towards Saar. The 40-year-old father and 36-year-old mother were taken by the National Ambulance to hospital, where they died of critical injuries.
According to sources, their children, 12-year old Aya, nine-year-old Yousif, and an unnamed seven-year-old son, sustained severe injuries and are undergoing treatment.
The Interior Ministry blamed the fatal incident on the other motorist’s ‘blatant disregard’ for road rules.
“The collision was the result of extreme speeding, inattentiveness and gross neglect by the driver of a Dodge vehicle,” read a statement by the Interior Ministry last night. “As he attempted to overtake another vehicle, he veered into the opposite lane, colliding face-to-face with a Toyota, killing its driver and his wife.” Investigations into the circumstances of the tragedy are ongoing, the ministry added.
The Public Prosecution was notified of the accident and will take the relevant legal procedures.
The driver of the other vehicle has also reportedly sustained injuries.
Sources said the late Mr Al Orrayedh and Ms Al Qaidoom will be buried in Al Hoora Cemetery at 3.30pm today. Funeral receptions will begin today at 7.30pm, in Ma’atam Al Soqaiya for men and Ma’atam Al Qaidoom for women.
The victims’ families will continue to accept condolences until Monday, over three intervals in the morning, afternoon and evening.
Meanwhile, a young Bahraini man sustained injuries in another traffic accident in Al Lawzi yesterday. His vehicle reportedly crashed into a metal railing and flipped as a result.
Emergency responders and traffic police arrived at the scene and carried out an investigation into the incident.
