Education Minister Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma honoured Bhavans-Bahrain Indian School (BIS) for its extraordinary performance in an international study measuring student achievements.
School officials, including principal Saji Jacob, were honoured in a ceremony held at the ministry in Isa Town.
The school results, which featured in the latest 2023 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), for grades four and eight, surpassed international averages and significantly outperformed national benchmarks.
Grade 4 students scored an impressive average of 626 in Mathematics and 642 in Science, significantly exceeding the international averages of 503 and 494, respectively, and Bahrain’s national averages of 462 and 475, respectively.
Grade 8 students continued this high performance with an average score of 590 in Mathematics and 643 in Science, compared to international averages of 478 for both subjects and Bahrain’s averages of 426 for Mathematics and 452 in Science.
“This milestone reflects the school’s steadfast commitment to fostering academic excellence, innovative pedagogy and cultivating a future-ready learning environment,” said BIS director Himanshu Verma.
The milestone follows BIS securing the highest score in the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study 2021, conducted under the aegis of the Education Ministry for Grade 4 students.
