Global efforts were key to addressing environmental challenges, most notably climate change, and protecting natural resources, including oceans.
Bahrain’s Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak made these remarks as he met Unesco director-general Audrey Azoulay on the sidelines of the Third UN Ocean Conference 2025 in Nice, France which continues until Friday.
Present at the meeting were Prime Minister’s Office director-general Hamad Al Mahmeed and Bahrain’s Ambassador to France Essam Al Jassim.
Mr Al Mubarak expressed his appreciation for the fruitful co-operation between Bahrain and Unesco, noting the kingdom’s commitment to supporting all efforts that contribute to accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals, through the implementation of a number of initiatives and strategic plans aimed at enhancing development progress across various sectors.
He commended Unesco’s efforts, through its Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, in enabling the international community to develop knowledge and exchange expertise to protect the oceans and ensure their sustainability.
The minister pointed out the importance of the conference in supporting international efforts to protect marine ecosystems and ensure their sustainability for future generations.
