A man has been remanded in custody for promoting immorality and committing acts deemed indecent on social media, according to the Public Prosecution.
The Cybercrimes Prosecutor said, in a statement today, that the authorities were monitoring a publicly open social media account followed by tens of thousands of users.
The account featured the accused dressed in women's clothing and making gestures and signs that, according to investigators, incited debauchery and contravened the values and traditions of Bahraini society, as well as public morality.
Based on the findings, the Public Prosecution issued an immediate arrest warrant.
The accused, who was identified as an Arab national, was interrogated and confronted with video clips and images related to the case.
He confessed to committing the offence.
The prosecutor ordered his detention for seven days pending further investigation and also ordered the seizure of his mobile phone, which was allegedly used to post the offensive content.
The prosecutor, meanwhile, stressed that though cyberspace remains open for public use, it is governed by strict legal and ethical standards that aim to ensure all content complies with national laws and reflects the values and traditions of society.
She underscored that legal action will continue to be taken against individuals who violate these guidelines, in order to preserve the integrity of online content and safeguard public decency.
