A programme aimed at training Bahraini youth to promote and protect the rights of children has been launched by the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR).
The initiative, which is part of the influential Child Rights Leaders Programme, seeks to develop the participants’ leadership, communication and teamwork skills and enhance their ability to make a lasting impact on their community.
Bahraini youth, aged 12 to 18, will be empowered to defend children’s rights, represent childhood-related challenges and contribute to shaping policies in their best interest, in line with Bahrain’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The training programme is the first of its kind in the Gulf region and has been launched in co-operation with FranklinCovey Education – Middle East, the ‘Smile’ Initiative and Al Kooheji Charity Foundation.
Launched under the slogan ‘You Have the Right’, it is being conducted within the framework of a memorandum of understanding with FranklinCovey Education – Middle East and forms an integral part of the Child Rights Commissioner’s 2024-2025 strategy.
The programme is based on the ‘Seven Habits’ principles developed by FranklinCovey, a global framework for character and collective leadership building.
This co-operation between the NIHR and private, educational and charitable entities highlights the importance of community partnership in safeguarding child rights and nurturing a generation aware of its rights and duties, capable of representing its voice in institutional and societal forums.
