A NUMBER of key roads across Bahrain will undergo summer maintenance over the next few weeks, the Works Ministry announced yesterday.
The programme, which started on Tuesday and continues until August 31, aims to improve asphalt quality, extend road lifespan and enhance traffic safety.
“In co-ordination with the Traffic Directorate, a comprehensive plan has been developed to ensure smooth flow and minimise disruptions,” said a statement.
“The plan includes detours on main roads and maintenance of expansion joints on several bridges.
The most vital roads included in the programme are Dry Dock Highway, Kuwait Avenue and several sections of Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway.
Maintenance work will also be carried out on expansion joints on several bridges, including Shaikh Hamad Bridge and detour bridges in Salman Port and Umm Al Hassam.
The ministry emphasised the importance of timely maintenance to avoid costly full road reconstruction and to preserve infrastructure.
It also urged drivers to follow traffic signs and use alternative routes during closures, which will be announced through various media channels.
- Meanwhile, the ministry announced that as part of the resurfacing works on Dry Dock Highway between East Hidd Housing Junction and Hidd Highway Junction, the fast and middle lanes for northbound traffic will be closed with only one being provided for traffic movement.
The closure, which began at 11pm last night, will last until 5am on Tuesday.
- As part of maintenance work on expansion joints on the Mina Salman flyover in Manama, the lanes will be closed in stages with one lane being provided for traffic movement.
The closure will be effective from 1am today to 5am on Monday.
All road users are requested to observe and obey the traffic rules for the safety of all.
