EMERGING and established researchers can now apply for a research grant programme aimed at exploring and documenting Bahrain’s rich archaeological heritage.
The initiative, organised by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca), provides financial support to partially cover travel and accommodation costs for researchers to contribute to the knowledge of the kingdom’s history, covering its geological features, as well as the Stone Age, Dilmun, Tylos and Islamic periods.
Eligible applicants include local and international master’s and doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers and independent scholars specialising in archaeology, anthropology or related fields.
Applications will be evaluated based on the relevance of the study and how much it focuses on the kingdom’s archaeological heritage, originality, feasibility and potential impact of the research.
There is preference for proposals that involve collaboration with Bahraini archaeologists or institutions.
Interested researchers must submit a plan outlining objective methodology, timeline and expected outcomes, CV highlighting academic background and relevant experience, letter of recommendation from an academic supervisor, and a document confirming current academic programme enrolment.
Grant recipients are expected to conduct their research in Bahrain during the agreed periods and provide a progress report at the end of their visit.
A final report detailing findings and contributions to Bahrain’s archaeology heritage must be submitted within three months after the research is completed.
Eligible researchers will receive economy-class ticket to and from Bahrain, accommodation for two weeks, access to archaeological sites, artefacts and local experts and financial support to conduct scientific analysis for objects found in the country.
All applications must be submitted by August 26 and selected applicants will be notified within two months after the deadline.
All publications resulting from this research must be published in peer-reviewed journals and must acknowledge the support of Baca.
