Two elderly sisters escaped unhurt today after the ceiling of their two-storey home in Isa Town collapsed.
Also came crashing down were unused furniture stored on the rooftop and a full water tank.
One of the sisters is a 70-year-old widow, and the other is a 51-year-old divorced mother.
Area councillor Abdulla Daraj visited the site along with the sisters’ sibling Mohammed Al Hammadi.
"We have contacted the Social Development Ministry and they want to move the women to Dar Al Karama, while we want a temporary apartment or hotel room," said Mr Al Hammadi.
"This is until they fix my parents' home, which is one of the first batches when the town was built for residents in 1958.
"I have moved my two sisters to my house in Salman Town, but they are refusing to sleep with the children - I have three daughters and two sons - saying they don't want to be a burden.
"I asked them to sleep in my room and my wife and I will sleep in the car; they refused.
"They have been convinced to stay, and they agreed to sleep in the living room until Sunday, if no arrangement is made for them they say they will sleep on the street."
“Both my sisters are traumatised. For several years they have been living in peace in my parents' home.
"I have contacted their children, but there is no real engagement.
"Mr Daraj has even offered to house them in his home.
"We tried to get their clothes, but the Interior Ministry refused, saying it was dangerous."
Mr Daraj said official papers have been filed, but the incident happening on Thursday evening, means nothing will be done until Sunday.
"They were offered Dar Al Karama, but the two sisters refused to share a toilet," he said.
"No one is forcing them, it is their right and they prefer a temporary accommodation until their home is renovated, if it can be renovated following any assessment.
"I have contacted charities across Bahrain for help.
