TRIBUTES poured in yesterday for long-time former Bahrain resident and university lecturer Manijeh Mistry who died in Pune, India following a heart attack.
She was aged 68.
Ms Mistry arrived in Bahrain in 1984 and was a lecturer at the University of Bahrain’s College of Health Sciences before moving back to India in 2022.
She also played a prominent role in the kingdom’s social and cultural circles.
She was actively involved with numerous organisations, including the Indian Ladies Association (ILA), where she held key leadership positions such as treasurer and youth wing head.
“A vibrant presence in the ILA, Ms Mistry was known for her talent in cooking, theatre, Rangoli art and gardening, and was a beloved participant in ILA events like Mango Mania,” said a statement yesterday.
“An academician at the College of Health Sciences, she balanced work, creativity and community with grace.”
Her social work also included the Migrant Workers Protection Society (MWPS), Lions Club of Bahrain, Bahrain Zoroastrian Association and several other community groups.
Ms Mistry is survived by her husband, Percy, son Framaaz and daughter Freya.
“We call ourselves the Wonder Girls of ILA and we are a global golden chain of friendship,” her friend and ILA member Meera Ravi added.
“We lost one golden link when Manijeh Mistry passed away in Pune.
“She was a very committed community member, leaving her mark in Bahrain with her imaginative theatre productions, her wonderful activities for young people, her compassion for migrant workers and reaching out to the less fortunate through ILA, Lions Club and MWPS, all of which she served and promoted.”
