AN attempt to smuggle in 11kg of narcotic substances, worth an estimated street value of BD76,000, has been foiled in a joint security operation between the Air Customs Directorate at Customs Affairs and the Anti-Narcotics Directorate at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement yesterday that several suspects, identified only as Asians, were arrested in connection with the case.
The operation began when Customs officers at the airport detected more than 5kg of narcotics in the possession of an arriving passenger.
The case was immediately referred to the anti-narcotics directorate, which launched a thorough investigation. As a result, five additional suspects were arrested within the kingdom, found in possession of more than 6kg of narcotic substances.
All necessary legal procedures were taken, and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Media Division at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science reaffirmed its commitment to promoting community partnership by conducting awareness lectures and exhibitions focused on drug prevention.
The public is urged to co-operate with security authorities by reporting any information related to drug trafficking or promotion through the 24/7 hotline (996), the main operations room (999) or via email at 996@interior.gov.bh.
All reports will be treated with strict confidentiality.
