A committee has been set up with the aim of highlighting the successes and efforts of Bahraini women and to increase their visibility in the media inside and outside Bahrain.
The committee will be formed under the chairmanship of Hisham Abu Alfateh, and will include representatives from Bahrain TV, Radio Bahrain, National Communication Centre, Bahrain Journalists’ Association, Bahrain Public Relations Society, University of Bahrain’s College of Media, a social media influencer and a representative of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) General Secretariat, SCW secretary general Lulwa Al Awadhi said yesterday, a day after a Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and SCW president, issued a decision to set it up.
The committee shall follow up on the implementation of the tasks stipulated in Article 3 of Decision (6) of 2025 establishing the committee, in terms of studying the reality of women working in the media field, analysing the media content of the status of women in television programmes and dramas and various audiovisual, print and visual media and social media.
It will also propose co-ordination tools with media institutions to develop means to enhance the status of women in the media, propose training, education and awareness programmes to build the capabilities of women working and lead in the media field to support ways to develop the skills of women.
Membership shall be for two years, and the committee shall hold its meetings periodically at the request of the chairman.
The committee may seek the assistance of those it deems appropriate with expertise and specialisation, whether from within or outside the general secretariat, to attend its meetings, express opinion or advice, or provide it with the necessary information required for the performance of its work.
The SCW was established on August 22, 2001 with ambitious aspirations to advance Bahrain’s profile and to strengthen the status of Bahraini women and support them towards progress at all levels.
