A man has been detained for luring and exploiting children through the internet to obtain explicit videos, according to a Public Prosecution statement.
The Family and Child Prosecution head revealed that the case began after the Child Protection in Cyberspace unit received a report from a parent, who alleged that an individual had contacted their child using social media to attempt to exploit them.
Following investigations, authorities were able to identify the user behind the account.
The suspect was questioned by the Public Prosecution and confessed to the charges, admitting that he had used fake female profiles to add children randomly and initiate conversations.
He then attempted to deceive them into sending inappropriate videos by building fake friendships and trust.
The suspect also admitted to sending pornographic material and money to the children in an effort to manipulate them.
The Public Prosecution ordered his pretrial detention and the seizure of data from his phone to determine the scope of his criminal activities.
The case is now being prepared for referral to the competent court.
The Family and Child Prosecution head also stressed the need for parents to take an active role in supervising their children's use of electronic devices, highlighting the importance of setting clear boundaries and providing guidance to help children be more aware of potential online dangers.
