A female lawyer, who allegedly unlawfully published information from what was meant to be a confidential paternity case, is being referred for trial by the Public Prosecution.
The lawyer, whose age and nationality were not disclosed, was flagged by the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security after she allegedly shared the information with media outlets and social media platforms.
After content relating to investigations and proceedings went public, an investigation was launched, which led to the identification of the lawyer as the main source.
She was interrogated and confronted with the published online articles, and then the Public Prosecution ordered her release and referred her for trial.
The government authorities have urged lawyers to ensure that they preserve the confidentiality of their clients, and any publication of court rulings must be done within the legal framework based on confidentiality, privacy, public decency and public interest.
The authorities also emphasised that the law criminalises the publication of information regarding investigations and proceedings relating to paternity, marriage, divorce, adultery, custody or alimony cases.
