A man who assaulted a policeman on April Fool’s Day, while naked, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison.
The High Criminal Court earlier found the 26-year-old from Muharraq guilty of public indecency, insulting policemen on the line of duty and intentional destruction of property.
At around 1am, two officers were asked to go to Busaiteen following a report about an individual behaving erratically.
“Upon our arrival, we saw the defendant naked, standing near his car, with a small knife in his hand and surrounded by glass shards,” one of them earlier testified.
“He appeared to be destroying his own vehicle,” the 35-year-old Bahraini officer told the Public Prosecution.
“We stepped out of the patrol and Rescue Police also arrived, and we tried to calm him down.
“We asked him to put the knife down and he did so immediately.
“As soon as he saw us, he tried to flee, but we approached him and asked him to cover his body. He resisted and pushed us away.
“He punched me in the head and stomach. I tried to trip him and fell down along with him. Eventually, we arrested him.”
The defendant faced four charges, including being nude on a public road and disrespecting officers on the job. The policeman sustained mild injuries that took a short time to completely heal.
The defendant reportedly admitted to being naked in public and security camera footage captured him attacking the policemen.
